NSW Dam Security Upgrades

The Envirofactor prepared the ecological assessment component for the DHI study team which undertook the Copeton Dam Upgrade Project - Preliminary Environmental Investigations for the Short-listed Dam Safety Upgrade Options. This study entailed a preliminary assessment (largely desktop) of three proposed auxiliary spillway sites and raised water levels on dam foreshores. It involved identification of vegetation communities present on the 3 shortlisted spillway sites, their condition and habitat values for flora and fauna, in particular for threatened species.

Following on from this The Envirofactor undertook the Copeton Dam Stage 1 Security Upgrade Flora and Fauna Assessment for the construction of a fuse plug and operation of an auxiliary spillway at Diamond Bay. This study involved a flora and fauna survey of the selected auxiliary spillway option. Survey techniques employed were targetted at detecting threatened fauna and flora species and ecological communities present on the proposal area. The results of this survey were used to inform a Section 5a assessment under the NSW EP&A Act (1979) and assessment of significace under Commonwealth EPBC Act 1999.
